Night flights in economy class are really horror for me. After having slept approx. 3 hours, at least I could sleep another hour while the transfer at the gate at Johannesburg Airport.
Fortunately, I had an exciting talk with the guy sitting beside me in the plane. Although I am wondering who arranged that I as an animal-rights activist and vegetarian sit side-by-side to a hunter from Denmark on his way to an 8-day hunting trip to South Africa!? Nevertheless, he has been a quite nice guy, who took my farewell „Have a nice trip and bad luck for hunting – sorry!“ with humor and comprehension. 🙂
His answer to my question, why he hunts, was quite interesting for me. He needed a moment to think about it, before he answered that there were always hunters in his family. After that, he added the common reason „nature experience“, too. He confirmed my remark that there are hunters who replaced there guns by cameras because they detected that there is the same nature experience without killing animals with the words „Yes, this happens more often.“. Should there still be hope….?
Nachtflüge in der Economy Class sind einfach ein Graus. Nachdem ich max. 3 Stunden schlafen konnte, ging beim Umsteigen am Flughafen in Johannesburg zumindest noch ein einstündiges Nickerchen am Gate.
Wenigstens konnte ich mich mit meinem Sitznachbarn im Flieger angeregt unterhalten. Wer das wohl arrangiert hat, dass ich als Tierrechtler und Vegetarier bei einem 10h-Flug neben einem Jäger aus Dänemark auf dem Weg zu einem 8-tägigen Jagsausflug nach Südafrika sitze, fragt sich allerdings schon!? War trotzdem ein ganz nettes Kerlchen, der meine Verabschiedung „Eine schöne Reise und viel Pech bei der Jagd – sorry!“ mit Humor und Verständnis genommen hat. 🙂
Interessant fand ich seine Aussage auf meine Frage, weshalb er jage. Da musste er kurz überlegen, bevor er antwortete, dass in seiner Familie schon immer gejagt wurde. Anschließend kam dann aber schon auch noch das obligatorische „Naturerleben“. Meine Bemerkung, dass es Jäger gibt, die ihr Gewehr gegen eine Fotokamera getauscht haben, weil sie festgestellt haben, dass man damit das gleiche Naturerleben hat, ohne Tiere zu töten, hat er mit den Worten bestätigt „Ja, das kommt öfter vor.“. Sollte da noch Hoffung bestehen….?
