I woke up quite early again and think about driving across the farm to find locations for the shooting with Martha planned for today. But Klaus asks me to do some filming of marble quarries with my drone. Unfortunately, even at the second quarry there is a false start of the drone because of a lack of even take-off sites. The drone slips down the uneven stone I tried to use for starting it and ends up with its camera in the sand. After that, the gimbal (camera mounting) does not work properly anymore and we need to abort the filming. Back at the farm house, luckily I can fix this problem.
Because of this outage, I now have more time for the shooting with Martha at least. She is a surprisingly awesome, natural and uncomplicated model and so it’s more fun than work. While this shooting, there is today’s second crash where I have lots of luck! The medium format camera that Ricoh/Pentax provided me for my trip to Namibia, falls down and hits a rock. Thankfully, the lens hood gave its life to save camera and lens. Without it, at least the lens would not have survived, I guess. Incidentally warm thanks to Ricoh/Pentax for the provision of this great camera for this very special journey! More about that at a later time.
When we come back to the farm house, the volunteers of the Namibia Kinderhilfe, Anouk and Lina, as well as the other models already arrived, too. Mark collected them from the airport and from Windhoek today. Now there’s really life at the farm house! 🙂

Wieder bin ich recht frühzeitig aufgewacht, weswegen ich eigentlich eine Runde auf der Farm drehen will, um Ausschau nach Locations für das für heute geplante Shooting mit Martha zu halten. Der Plan unseres Gastgebers Klaus sieht hingegen vor, dass wir einige Marmorsteinbrüche abfahren und mit meiner Drohne filmen. Leider gibt es bereits beim zweiten Steinbruch mangels ebenem Startplatzes einen Fehlstart, bei dem die Drohne abrutscht und mit der Kamera im Sand landet. Anschließend funktioniert der Gimbal (die Aufhängung der Kamera, die die Flugbewegungen ausgleicht) nicht mehr richtig, was ich zurück im Farmhaus glücklicherweise beheben kann.
Dafür habe ich jetzt mehr Zeit für meine Shootings mit Martha. Sie ist ein unerwartet tolles, natürliches und unkomliziertes Model, mit dem die Arbeit großen Spaß macht. Bei diesem Shooting habe ich heute zum zweiten Mal Glück im Unglück: Die Sonnenblende gibt bei einem Sturz der Kamera auf einen Felsen ihr Leben, um Objektiv und Kamera zu retten. Ohne Sonnenblende wäre schätzungsweise mindestens das Objektiv in die ewigen Jagdgründe eingegangen. An dieser Stelle übrigens einen ganz herzlichen Dank an Ricoh/Pentax, die mir für diese besondere Reise eine ganz besondere Kameraausrüstung zur Verfügung gestellt haben! Dazu zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt noch einmal mehr.
Als wir abends heimkommen, sind die beiden Voluntärinnen für die Namibia Kinderhilfe, Anouk und Lina, sowie die restlichen Models bereits da. Mark hatte sie heute vom Flughafen bzw. aus Windhoek abgeholt. Jetzt herrscht wirklich Leben im Farmhaus! 🙂
